On their second album, “American Love Call” (out now on Dead Oceans/Colemine Records), this throwback band out of Indiana embraces 1970s lowrider soul with a cocktail of smooth, honeyed harmonies shared by Jones and drummer Aaron Frazer.
To be honest, Frazer’s falsetto on “Is It Any Wonder?” was the show-stealing icing on the cake of the band’s self-titled 2016 debut, so weaving in more Frazer and taking a group-vocal approach on the new record makes glorious sense and elevates the whole experience. The band headlines two nights at Teragram Ballroom with support from Huntington Beach’s self-described “aggressive elevator soul” band Ginger Root.
