Filmed over the course of a decade by director/producer Arwen Curry, this feature documentary examines the life and legacy of the late feminist science fiction and fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin, who passed away in 2018 at age 88. Illuminating her contribution to mainstream literature, the film employs animation and interviews with the author as well as Margaret Atwood, Neil Gaiman, David Mitchell and Michael Chabon among others.
Le Guin was the first woman to win both the Hugo and Nebula awards for science fiction and fantasy, and notably elevated female characters from bikini-clad aliens into fully-fledged protagonists.
The film begins screening today at several L.A.-based Laemmle Theaters, including Playhouse 7, Royal, Town Center 5 and Claremont 5.
